Black Friday

Black Friday
Black Friday - FRIDAY 29TH, 2013. A massive winter swell hit the North Shore of Oahu on a morning people typically line up sheepishly at big box retailers to get great deals on consumer goods. Not so for the North Shore crowd. I was living in my van on Ke’iki Road at the time, and rolling up to Pipeline around 9 in the morning I was blown away by the quality of the surf. Dark seas met a perfectly groomed winter swell, and an iconic day at Pipeline ensued. That morning I shot only 3 frames on my Olympus OM-1, because I had 3 frames left on my roll Kodak TRI-X 400, my favorite film. This photo is one I love sharing. The contrast of the white section of Backdoor compared to the dark blacks inside Pipeline always reminds me of the yin-yang, and of the beauty of waves and of surfing in contrast to the life-threatening danger that surfing such big waves engenders. Available in sizes up to 20x30in, chose between giclée prints on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308 or aluminum prints. Either option is a perfect way to own a piece of my work that will look beautiful in your office or home, and will last a lifetime. I suggest the Hahnemuhle giclée print if you’re planning on framing your photo, or an hanger backed aluminum print if you’d prefer a minimalist, low maintenance presentation. This photo was scanned from an analogue 35mm negative, and prints are digitally printed. BIGGER IS BETTER.
All prints come signed by the artist.
