This day stands out distinctly in my mind…a couple of months after the dramatic April flooding on the North Shore I found myself house sitting in Hanalei. It started raining and just didn’t stop. A pond outside filled then overflowed it’s banks, and the yard quickly began to flood. What a wild feeling, witnessing the irresistible power of nature.  Thankfully the water only rose a couple of feet, and like any good photographer would, I put on my wetsuit and ventured outside in the floodwaters. I wandered a field covered with water, where these Nene were enjoying the conditions. Granting me intimate access I walked over this gaggle of Nene and snapped a few photos. This one was the best.
